Counselling

The Victoria Sexual Assault Centre (VSAC) provides both crisis support and trauma counselling, as well as group counselling sessions for all women, Trans, Two-Spirit and Gender Diverse people.

Options for Counselling

  • Individual counselling assists in dealing with the most immediate emotional, physical and behavioural reactions to sexual assault, and provides help for those women, Trans, Two-Spirit and Gender Diverse survivors who are in need of support.
  • Group Support is an integral part of our counselling services.  We offer a range of groups that focus on connection, skill development and support.

To learn more or to access any of these services as well as for general support, please call the Service Access line at 250-383-3232 between 9:30am to 4:30pm on Monday to Friday.

Healing is a Journey

At the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre our belief is that healing is possible.  There are many paths to healing with different stages along the way.  These links can provide you with more information about what healing can look like and how you can get there. Ultimately, we encourage everyone to do what works best for them. Remember you are in charge of your own healing process.

Additional Counselling Services

Support For Family & Friends

Being a friend, partner, or family member of a woman, Trans, Two-Spirit, or Gender Diverse survivor who has experienced sexual trauma can be confusing and upsetting. We provide support and information to help you understand some of the related issues that have an impact on you and your relationship and offer ways in which you as a partner or ally can help.

Counselling for Youth

Youth, ages 13 to 18, sometimes require a unique counselling experience. For youth ages 13 to 15 we work in partnership with the  Victoria Child Abuse Counselling and Prevention Centre (also known as the Mary Manning Centre) to find the best fit for the individual.  Due to the vulnerability of youth, services for them are prioritized to ensure they receive timely support.

Counselling at the Native Friendship Centre (NFC)

VSAC is committed to working in collaboration with community agencies and we are proud of our 10-year-plus relationship with the Victoria Native Friendship Centre. This relationship has allowed us to decrease barriers for Indigenous survivors to accessing our services, as well as to recognize and respond to the higher prevalence of sexualized violence against Indigenous women, Trans, and Two-Spirit communities.

Our counselling service at the Victoria Native Friendship Centre (VNFC), can be accessed by connecting with VNFC (250.384.3211).

Support with the Criminal Justice System

If you would like information about reporting to police or already have reported and would like some support while navigating that process, our specialized victim services can help.
